Hello friends of Dos Folkies. Happy 2010.  We've added some new pieces by a few of our favorite artists this winter.  Check out the latest works from John Henry Toney, and the wonderful collage cards we aquired from Della Wells.  We also have a cool new piece for all you dog lovers from James 'Buddy' Snipes, and works from Eric Legge as well.  More coming from Eric soon. We've also aquired new work from Charlie 'Tinman' Lucas, and we've added a new artist, Jan Jacobson, to our lineup. Our good friend and Dos Folkies Gallery artist, Craig Rogers, had the honor of having his painting 'Boat Fusion' selected from over 400 entries for the 2010 calendar from the Institute on Disability at the University of New Hampshire.  The calendars are available at iod.unh.edu. The original 'Boat Fusion' is available through our gallery. Lastly, we've added 4 new works by Mose Tolliver. What more can we say about Mr Tolliver, one of the greatest vernacular artists of his generation. These pieces were aquired through a private collector in Mose's home town of Montgomery, Alabama, and are very affordable.  Take a browse and let us know how we can assist you. We're lay-a-way friendly here at Dos Folkies Gallery.  Have a safe and prosperous year.  Dave and Jenell

Dos Folkies Mission Statement

Dos Folkies Gallery is committed to supporting the works of self-taught, brut, and outsider artists. Our gallery showcases folks who live on the margins and those who have little or no education in art but have created some very inspired works. We also know there are many gifted artists out there with disabilities who only need a place to display their art so that the rest of the world can discover what a handful already know. These folks deserve to have their works seen. Dos Folkies Gallery will make available the art of well-known self-taught masters and emerging artists as we find them, or they find us. We will have a few surprises and other fun, informative and interesting things on this venture we call, Dos Folkies Gallery. We believe all inspired creation comes from the same wellspring of the heart.

Dos Folkies is two old friends, Jenell DeMatteo and Dave Russell. We both have Midwest and southern roots, but have settled our bones in the Pacific Northwest, on Washington’s, Olympic Peninsula. Dave has a love of all things naïve and brut. He has immersed himself, and likewise his family, into the Contemporary Folk Art of the American Southeast since his visit to Howard Finster’s Paradise Gardens in 2000. Jenell was born in Memphis and grew up in rural Ohio. Her mother was a primitive antiques dealer and taught her the value of raw and honest folk art. Jenell works full time for individuals with developmental disabilities as an advocate. Not much for pretenses she just really admires the work emerging from these artists.
