About the Artist
John Henry Toney’s inspiration to create art came to him in 1995 at the age of 66. While he was plowing in his turnip field in rural Alabama, he noticed that one of the turnips he brought up had a face on it. For John, it was a sign from God for him to rekindle the interest in art that he had as a child. He drew a picture of the turnip with a face on it and has been creating his own unique style of rural art ever since. His subject matter ranges from fancy ladies to automobiles, farm animals, trains, prehistoric creatures, gators, the battle of the sexes, and turnips. John Henry works mainly with colored paint pens, but also does some painted pieces on wood panels. He resides in Seale, Alabama near his friends and fellow artists Butch Anthony and Buddy Snipes.
